A designer with Shelf Genie since the inception of the Philadelphia location in January 2011, Leslie’s career began very differently. After graduating the University of Delaware with a degree in English Literature and Journalism, Leslie first worked as an editor for the inhouse publications of two Fortune 500 electronics companies in the San Francisco Bay area of California where she met and married her husband, Grant. Brought back east six years later to Delaware where her parents owned a food distribution business, she operated the sales arm of their company for the next twelve years before she moved overseas with her husband and their son Jason.
Fast forward to 2011, Leslie answered an ad for a Shelf Genie designer and was intrigued as there were no photos, just a description. Asked to meet the founder of Shelf Genie at the Philadelphia Home Show for an interview and see the product displayed, she was amazed at what she saw. Her initial thought was, “Who would not want this?” Within a week, she was trained and visiting homes for Shelf Genie’s free design consultation. She fell in love with her new career. “In addition to meeting interesting and friendly people who really have a need to make their lives easier through Shelf Genie, I love the end result of my clients being very happy with the joy Shelf Genie brings to their lives. It is a perfect situation for me. My clients are happy and that makes me happy.”
Outside of her Shelf Genie life, Leslie enjoys mid to long distance running with Grant, especially in natural environments such as Ridley Creek State Park or at the ocean. Following a healthy diet of primarily fruits and vegetables keeps her energy levels high enabling her to run almost daily. Continuing her first love of writing, in her spare time she is currently at work on a mystery. When asked the timeline of completion, her answer is, “It’s a mystery.”
